Recently, I was in the Los Angeles/Orange County area for about 4 days. A friend and I decided to visit the "hot spots" of the ICC.

Our first stop was at the Upside Down club in Hollywood. We went to buy some books in their bookstore. We were greeted at the door by a very friendly fellow who instructed us to take the elevator down to the BS- ( short abbreviation for bookstore). The club has two levels.

When I got into the elevator, I felt like I had gotten into the elevator in the haunted house attraction at Disneyland. For those of you familiar with the ride, it appears that the floor is dropping out from underneath you. There was a little marquee on the back wall of the elevator that read "Welcome to the Upside Down Club" My friend felt like she was in a Twilight Zone episode and the sign would begin to talk to us.

Needless, to say we survived the elevator ride and walked into the bookstore. We greeted the guy behind the counter and he greeted us back. He asked if there was anything in particular we were looking for and I asked if they had any copies of the Animal Farm or 1984?... Okay, I'll fess up, I didn't ask that but had the idea to.

Anyway, We just told him that we wanted to see what they had in their collection. I have to confess I spent about $38.00 that day buying books. They were, Born of Water, the Mission, Prepared to Answer, Second Principles, and the all time "kingdom" classic, the Master Plan of Evangelism. ( When I was in the group I loaned my copy to a young convert and I left before I could retrieve it.)

We were there for about twenty minutes and within that time two other members had come into the store. I started to feel like I needed to leave before I ran to into someone I knew. I also felt like a scene from" Invasion of the Body Snatchers" would erupt at any moment. For those who have seen the movie, you remember the scene, where those were among "them" would lift their arm and point their finger and began to screech at the person who was not one of "them." They some how would know when someone who not one them was amoungst their ranks.

So my friend and I bought our books and left. As we were leaving, we decided to take the stairs up instead of the elevator. When we reached the top of the stairs we were met with big poster of "Brave Heart" and we both looked at each other and chuckled, because of how the leaders in the ICC were hooked on this movie for months. Just like they were with the "Mission", "Glory", " Terminator 2", "X" and "Schindler's List."

I predict that this year's pick of movies will be:

"Contact" ,"Men in Black" and "My Best Friend's Wedding."

I can see the sermon titles now; "Contact and Follow-ups" " Men and Women in Black, Saving the Lost" and "My Best Friend's Kingdom Wedding" -- 10 point lesson on dating and marriage in the kingdom.

Anyway, we walked out and got into my friends car and then took a drive to the coast to no other than, Mahattan Beach.... To be continued
